Fifth Grade Goes to the Game
Students will prepare for and participate in the Lansing Lugnuts "Grand Slam School Days". This is a special event that allows students an opportunity for authentic use of concepts and skills learned during the year. Students will study baseball themed math, social studies and language arts concepts directly linked to Michigan benchmarks, and then use their knowledge to complete integrated curriculum assignments based on their day at the park. Among the assignments, students may identify two and three-dimensional shapes, line relationships, as well as classify angles. Students may also calculate averages, interpret statistics, create authentic graphs and determine the ways that math is used in baseball. Students may read widely about the impact that the tradition of baseball has had on the American lifestyle in the past century. Students may use a variety of writing skills such as newspaper reporting, persuasive writing, and poetry pieces to analyze and examine the great American pastime of baseball. Permission slips are coming home today for our trip to the ballpark. Please return them on Tuesday April 14th
